Decorating With Photos Of Your Family

By Autumn Lockwood

When you display your precious family photographs in your home, whether they are vintage photos of your ancestors or current photos of your family, you awaken memories that you hold dear to your heart. A vintage photograph framed in an ornate picture frame and hung in a prominent place adds a nostalgic and decorative touch to your home. A wall gallery of family photos lets you chronicle your family history in a way that evokes pleasant memories and tells a story of your family.

A wall display of family photographs personalizes your decor and warmly welcomes your guests. Instead of placing your memories in photo albums or scrapbooks, select picture frames that complement your decor and proudly display your photographs. They will add beauty to your home and allow friends and family to enjoy them every day.

Whether you choose to hang photographs on the wall or display them on a tabletop, this article will give you some ideas for using treasured family photographs to decorate your home.

Use As A Focal Point of Your Room

Proudly display a favorite family photograph as the focal point of your room. For the best presentation choose a picture frame that will complement and add to the visual beauty of your photograph. Choose a frame that will not overpower your photograph. A large vintage black and white photograph of your grandparents or great grandparents can be displayed in an ornate oval picture frame. A walnut wood picture frame surrounding a family photograph would beautifully highlight the photograph and help it stand out. When hung in a prominent place, like above a fireplace, it becomes a piece of art and attracts the eye of everyone who enters your room.

More Than Just Family Members

Family photographs aren’t just photos that include family members. They can be photos taken by family members of special occasions, like a memorable vacation or special family occasion. You can enlarge the photo to hang on your wall or have a smaller version for a table top display. Be sure to match the picture frame with the content of the image so it complements your photo. A large photograph can be hung on the wall as a focal point in your dining room or several smaller photos can be hung as a grouping on a wall in your family room.

Where and How To Hang Your Photographs

No matter where your photographs are placed you can find a unique way to display them that draws attention to them, like on a single decorative shelf on a wall.

A hallway is a traditional area to hang family photographs. Many people choose to have this area as a family history wall. Make your photos stand out by using non-traditional matting, such as a square or round opening or an off-centered opening. Hallways are usually narrow so keep your picture frames simple and let your photos speak for themselves. If available, focused lighting will help highlight the photos.

Think ‘outside the box’ for a unique way to display your photos. Hanging a photo doesn’t always mean it is hung on a wall. You can use a delicate chain or ribbon to hang a small picture frame from a peg on your coat rack in your entryway. Group several whimsical or jeweled picture frames in different shapes, sizes and colors on a table or mantel for fun eye-appeal.

The Art of Displaying Family Photographs

Decorating with family photographs is an art form and it really is not difficult to achieve an artistic display. The best way to get the look you want is to experiment with framing and displaying. Whether you choose to hang photographs on your wall or place on a shelf, mantel or tabletop, there are beautiful picture frames from which to choose. Consider a grouping of framed pictures and mementos from a special vacation or outdoor adventure tucked onto a shelf.

You may not think of a kitchen as the place to display family photos, but if your home is like many, the kitchen is the gathering place for family and when friends come to visit. Family photos or photos of friends and fun times will warm your kitchen and make it more welcoming to your friends and more enjoyed as the heart of your home.

Try a few of these suggestions and see how decorating with family photographs can make your home a warm and welcoming place for your friends and family.

Australian PM Gillard pressured to address human rights crackdown in China

Monday, April 25, 2011

The international organisation Human Rights Watch (HRW) has called on Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard to publicly address China’s recent crackdown on dissidents, during her visit to the country from April 25th to 28th.

In an open letter HRW called on Prime Minister Gillard to address the increasing use of repressive force in China. According to HRW at least 39 lawyers and activists have been arrested and between 100 and 200 others have been victims of repressive measures such as house arrest, since February 16th.

Prime Minister Gillard is currently on a tour of Asia which included a stop in the disaster hit regions of Japan. She told Australian media before departing that she would “of course be raising human rights (with China).” “Our view of course is that we raise human rights. We have a human rights dialogue with China. That dialogue was in session as recently as December last year.”

HRW’s Asia advocacy director Sophie Richardson said that whilst Prime Minister Gillard has expressed concern in Canberra, “the test is whether she will do so publicly in Beijing”

The issue of human rights in China is of particular interest in Australia following the disappearance – and feared arrest – of Australian citizen and pro-democracy activist Yang Hengjun in China last month. The political blogger and writer disappeared in Guangzhou in March and although he has since resurfaced, he has not publicly stated exactly what happened during the two day period that he was missing.

Australians unite against whaling in Southern Ocean

Wednesday, January 18, 2006File:Greenpeace Vessels Esperanza and Arctic Sun.jpg

Anti-whaling protesters have joined forces across Australia, Canada, Germany, New Zealand, and the U.S.A calling for an end to the killing of whales for meat by Japan. Greenpeace organised the international day of action as it continued its efforts to disrupt the hunting of minke whales by the Japanese whaling fleet currently in the Southern Ocean.

The day of action was being marked to protest the actions of the fleet which protesters believe violate the 1986 International Whaling Commission (IWC) global ban on commercial whaling. Japan’s JARPA Japanese Whale Research Program was allowed to operate under a Special Permit in the Antarctic according to Article VIII of the International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling. In its JARPA-2 plan, Japan plans to double its annual scientific research catch of Minke whales to 935, and to add 10 Fin whales to its quota. The International Fund for Animal Welfare states that over the next two years, Japan plans to kill 50 endangered Humpback whales and an additional 40 fin whales.

Why Have Online House Sharing Agreement Services Become Popular?}

Why have Online House Sharing Agreement Services Become Popular?

by

James WalshHouse Sharing is defined as renting out of property jointly by a group of people. They agree to pay the rent for a fixed duration of time including all utility bill payments and property Council Tax. Typically, the house sharing agreement contains:

 • The percentage of rent payable by each co-tenant
 • The duration of tenancy
 • The percentage of deposit to be paid by each co-tenant
 • The facilities to be made available to all the tenants
 • Rights and responsibilities of the landlord
 • Rights and responsibilities of all the tenants
 • The notice period

Changing British Society:

The Halifax Indicator shows that more than 74 percent of house sharing agreements are signed by local and international students. In fact, University Accommodation services at Bristol and Bath University recommend this type of tenancy. A house sharing tenancy assures:

 • less expenses
 • company
 • safety

University Accommodation services claim that usually a group of full-time students gets together and enters into a house sharing tenancy agreement. However, as social Psychologist, Day, points out students prefer to use the online method while entering into a house sharing tenancy agreement. Students are concerned with their studies and prefer to get settled in a house without hassle and wastage of time. Online method has the following advantages:

 • Students find physically going to a solicitor and drawing up the house sharing agreement a tedious task
 • Students are usually categorised to be ‘below the poverty line’ in the UK. They cannot afford to hire a lawyer and the expenses of travelling.
 • Students are often unaware of housing and tenancy laws. They do not understand legal jargon and documentation clauses. Online agencies provide guides and support
 • Online agencies also provide students with the convenience of entering into a ‘Roommate Agreement’ ensuring that the terms of tenancy and property responsibilities are clear between the tenants.
 • An online house sharing agreement also provides a content insurance policy for the landlord and the tenants. This insurance policy ensures that the correct person liable for any theft is rightly charged with the payment.
 • Students have easy accessibility to the Internet and can secure house sharing agreements online.

Online House Sharing Agreements usually are student-friendly. Online agencies understand that a major part of their profit comes from students. Usually online agencies such as tenancy- agreement

and

Legalhelpers

provide house sharing advice to students:

 • Always take a friend or a responsible acquaintance when viewing the property premises. Online agencies state that often students are duped into entering house sharing tenancy agreements for properties other than the one viewed.
 • Be positive and knowledgeable about tenancy facts of deposit and rental advance. The two terms are different from each other. Prospective tenants have to pay a month’s rent as advance and a deposit amount of six weeks rent.
 • Always read the tenancy agreement. Online agencies provide solicitor-drafted agreements coupled with a definition sheet of tenancy terms. Online agency solicitors prepare tenancy agreement clauses which are in compliance with the 1988 UK Housing Act.
 • Online agencies also make sure that a content insurance cover is provided by the landlord.
 • The legal team of the online agency ensures that the house sharing tenancy agreement is constructed in the present tense outlining the rent, duration and the notice period.
 • Online house sharing agreement services also ensure that the prospective tenants are not liable for any existent or naturally occurring property damage. Online agencies make sure that the landlord agrees to a repair clause.
 • The agency advises prospective tenants to keep a record of all rent payments.

The prospective tenant has to visit an online house sharing agreement agency’s website and fill in the application form with the vital and required information. The information is then verified by the online agency’s legal experts. The house sharing agreement is drafted and emailed to the individuals for revision. On editing, the deed is sent back to the agency. The online agency contacts the respective landlord and after obtaining his/ her consent, the deed is finalised. The house sharing online agreement is a legally binding document. Thus, both parties have to sign the agreement in front of the online agency’s solicitor. The agreement is duly signed by the lawyer and stored. As the tenancy period ends, the agreement’s notice and deposit clauses come into fore. The online agency ensures that the tenants get their deposits back. Thus, online house sharing agreement services have made tenancy agreements easier. The future of these online agencies is largely dependent on the rate of student infiltration in the country.

How Bodybuilders Get Deep Cut Abs

How Bodybuilders Get Deep Cut Abs

by

Dean Blackstone

Compared to the general population including those who are into keeping fit bodybuilders are certainly the most knowledgeable about how to dramatically change their bodies. While every bodybuilder wants abs, lots of non-bodybuilders want them, too. As the guys and gals with the best abs are bodybuilders, their methods for getting washboard abs should be looked at and adopted by anyone. How would a bodybuilder go about getting abs, then?

First, let s take a look at the way most general fitness enthusiast approach it or are advised to approach it by non-bodybuilder types: Endless repetitions of crunches, bends and twists of all descriptions, every single day. Sound familiar?

While any abs exercise is certainly better than none for developing the muscles, the bodybuilders approach simply treats the abdominals like any other muscle. Bodybuilders know the best way to make muscles grow is to use a challenging amount of resistance and work out with intensity, then rest to allow growth to occur. Intensity means a hard effort in a short period of time. This is achieved by using relatively low repetitions (15 or so, tops) per set (collections of repetitions with a minute or two rest in between; usually 3-8 sets, max) and rather than doing more reps or sets, a progressively greater resistance is used (heavier weight) to keep the muscles growing thicker, thus forming deeper abdominal cuts.

Adding resistance can be done in several different ways, but the most common are to place increasingly large weight plates on the chest, or hold them behind the head as you crunch. Doing so encourages the muscles to grow bigger and stronger, which is what gives your abs increasing depth.

However this is only half the story. Losing sufficient body fat is probably the hardest part of getting abs and no amount of abs training will burn stomach fat directly. You will never see your abs unless you have very low body fat, and the only way to achieve this is to use a combination of fully-body exercise (all round weight training is the best) coupled with a good fat loss diet (low carb, higher fats and protein but lower overall calories) and cardio.

Diet is critical in achieving fat loss and muscle gains.

Protein supplements

such as whey can go a long way to helping you get the nutrients you need to succeed.

India seeks web crackdown after failed talks with industry

Tuesday, December 6, 2011

Indian authorities today declared an intent to force web companies to screen content for “offensive” and “blasphemous material”. The move follows failed talks yesterday with Facebook, Google, Yahoo!, and Microsoft.

Communications Minister Kapil Sibal says “My aim is that insulting material never gets uploaded”, and that web firms “will have to give us the data, where these images are being uploaded and who is doing it.” The government’s planned new policy is in response to web-based firms informing him they could not prevent such material being uploaded. “They have given it to me in writing that they will not do anything until we get an order from the court,” even though “At a meeting on 4 November, we showed them some of the photos and they too agreed that the photos were offensive,” said Sibal. The disputed material was first discussed three months ago.

Sibal calls the situation “unacceptable” and disputes the firms’ defence of being merely “platforms” for others to add material. He claims they showed their “intention was not to cooperate”. Facebook promised ongoing dialogue in a statement and “[recognise] the government’s interest in minimising the amount of abusive content”. They also promised to “remove any content that violates our terms, which are designed to keep material that is hateful, threatening, incites violence or contains nudity off the service.”

Google say they remove material breaching their policies and to comply with local legislation. “But when content is legal and doesn’t violate our policies, we won’t remove it just because it’s controversial, as we believe that people’s differing views, so long as they’re legal, should be respected and protected,” the company added.

“We have to take care of the sensibilities of our people, we have to protect their sensibilities. Our cultural ethos is very important to us,” Sibal said today. A response from web firms of “we throw up our hands, we can’t do anything about this” would not be tolerated.

Although some reports suggest the spat has been triggered by critiques of powerful politician Sonia Gandhi, Sibal claims the firms have previously hesitated to respond to requests for details of “terrorists”. All the material the government wishes to censor is “absolutely illegal, defamatory, pornographic or other similar kind of material” says Congress spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi. Material in question includes cartoons of Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and material mocking religion including an image depicting pigs in Mecca.

Indian computer security expert Vijay Mukhi rubbished the suggestions. “The idea of prescreening is impossible. How will they do it?… There is no technology currently that determines whether content is ‘defamatory’ or ‘offensive’,” he told Reuters. This sentiment was broadly echoed by large numbers on Twitter; the tag #IdiotKapilSibal was among the nation’s Twitter users’ most-used today. Twitter and Facebook were the organising points earlier this year for an anti-graft campaign that saw thousands protesting and new laws passed.

Internet companies insist too much material flows through the web to make such screening plausible. Sibal says the firms are applying US standards which do not take Indian needs into account.

Research in Motion last year resisted Indian security demands for access to encrypted BlackBerry communications. The government gave up that request but did manage to gain limited access to some BlackBerry communications. Skype and Google were told then that local servers would be mandatory, allowing the government to inspect emails.

About 100 million of India’s 1.2 billion people are online. There are 28 million Indian Facebook profiles. Google says it has received 68 content removal requests from Indian officials this year, and there have also been concerns Google Earth could be used to plan militant attacks.

India’s new moves follow criticism of the United Kingdom earlier this year. The UK proposed social media restrictions following riots while the Foreign Secretary simultaneously criticised other nations using social media controls to limit protest.
